Howdy, campers — and welcome to Camp CWD! We’re so glad you decided to spend your summer with us, idling away the hours on the shores of Lake Peahalasaukee1, making mushburgers for dinner, and telling ghost stories around the fire. You’re in for a real treat!
The Camp CWD team is on vacation this week, so no recipes — but, to get you ready for the Best Summer Ever™, we put together a sample itinerary for a day at camp!
5:30AM — Wake Up
Wake up leisurely with the rising sun! Or, more likely, abruptly by the wild and free-range toddlers and dogs who inhabit the campgrounds. They get so excited about the prospect of a new day, they’re up before the roosters, ready for excitement. Besides, there’s no time to relax — we’re already running out of daylight!
6:00AM — Reveille & Breakfast
After you’ve gotten up and dressed2, head down to the mess hall for chow time. Our chef will be preparing a variety of short order meals, including his famous “weekend waffles,” for your enjoyment3. Don’t forget to try the scrambled eggs, extra runny!
6:30AM-11:30AM — Free Play
Head down to the beach to play in the sand and splash in the waves. Take a kayak or paddleboard out for a scenic cruise. Do some target shooting on the archery range. We’re sure you’ll find some time in the agenda to head back to the cabins for some reading and relaxation, or maybe even a tea party during snack time.
12:00PM — Lunch
After relaxing on the camp green for a bit, we head back to the mess hall for a light lunch. If it’s a Saturday, we’ll gather ‘round the grills for a good ol’ fashioned cookout: burgers, ribs, and chili.
1:00PM-5:00PM — Naps and Free Play
Take advantage of the permanent good weather while the free-range children take a nap! Head out for a hike, go for a swim, or maybe cast a line for some fish4. Go for a swim in the lake — after lunch is the best time for a belly flop competition!
The more thoughtful of you might take this opportunity to write a letter home, describing how your summer is going5.
6:00PM — Dinner
Dinner tonight is a Camp CWD6 classic — mushburgers! We’ll make our own — combining a quarter to half pound of ground beef7, chopped veggies, seasonings to taste, and any other additions you deem fit. Wrap this tightly in tinfoil and place over hot coals for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.
You can read the full recipe here, as posted last year. Just make sure you eat outside!
7:00PM-9:00PM — Evening Activity
After dinner and before dark, opportunity abounds! Enjoy a rousing game of cribbage, watch the sunset from the dock, or take the boat out for ice cream. If the weather isn’t cooperating, it might be a movie night — or maybe just stay in the cabins and read. In all likelihood, you’ll be so exhausted from all the activity you might just want to curl up under some blankets and relax!
9:00PM - Fireworks!
It’s the Fourth of July — America’s Birthday! We’ll head down to the beach and watch the fireworks go off over the lake.
9:30PM — Lights Out
Day is done, gone the sun. Head back to the bunks, get ready for bed, and rest up — tomorrow is another action-packed day at Camp CWD!
That’s Algonquin for “The Smile of the Great Cow.”
“Longs and Shorts,” consisting of a bathing suit and UPF-rated longsleeve sunshirt.
With options to just eat the batter raw.
If you catch anything, the cook will prepare it fresh for dinner!
Couldn’t be better if you ask me!
And Camp Pinemere.
Or bison.
Living for the CWD brand!
Ahh...memories of camp days! Even if it is was only Pinemere (and not Akiba...which was nothing like Pinemere), something about "camp" is always warm and comforting, and definitely builds character and comradery.
And Pinemere did introduce the mushburger into our lives! For that, we can be thankful, as we have gotten a lot of mileage out of the mushburger, and a lot of good eats. (Oh, sorry--started the sentence with a conjunction--my Bad.)
I love you....Happy Camping!!
