Howdy ladies and gents. Family CWD is back from Montany1, where we enjoyed a wonderful week exploring Yellowstone. We spent five solid days in the park, and probably could go back for at least three times that amount. Just an awesome experience - highly recommend you take advantage of visiting if you ever get the chance. While perhaps ambitious for a first trip with just me, Mrs., and Baby CWD, we certainly made the most of it, and I’m not sure there’s much I would have changed2.
But, with a week of vacation3, I can say with utmost certainly, I didn’t really cook anything, at all4. And, unlike many trips I’ve taken5, food was not the highlight here6. I could go a few months without another roast beef and cheddar sandwich7. And as much as I love bison burgers, three in a week is plenty for me8.
So, roundabout way of saying, I don’t have much to share with you this week. Instead, I’ll let you maybe share something you’re either a) excited to cook or b) don’t know how to cook in the comments, and I’ll do my best to respond. No ingredient is too obscure, no timeframe too short! Think of this as your own private9 Chopped experience. And, to top it off, best comment will win a free subscription to my premium newsletter that consists only of mediocre nature photography — Blurred Bovines!
With that, have a terrific Friday, drink lots of water, and get outside! We’ll see you next week with something a little more food-related!
… and don’t think I forgot, but a very happy birthday to Mrs. CWD! You’re our most important ingredient!
Gus and Cal would be proud.
Except, perhaps, bringing more than one t-shirt. But I’m sure the local businesses appreciated my forgetfulness!
A guy I work with told me once you have kids, you no longer take vacation — you take trips.
Which might be the first time I’ve gone a week without cooking since college. Wild.
In another life, my memoirs would be called The Meals Heard ‘Round the World!
That being said — Ernie’s in West Yellowstone was an absolute standout. We ate here every day (and once twice!) for the last four days.
Or really, as Mrs. CWD put it, any sandwich.
This indulgence was a bit reminiscent of the 2019 “UK Burger Tour” that occurred simultaneously to my North Channel excursion. #OnlyOneVowelBetweenFitnessAndFatness!
Semi-private, maybe? It is on the internet.
Back at the Ranch
So happy the trip was wonderful, and you actually got a break from cooking. Hope the eating was good! Looking forward to what you'll cook up next weekend!
Heading up to Maine this weekend, if you HAD to cook an oyster how would you recommend doing so?
