I think I was the one who cut off the tags. I bought them as toys, not collectables. Grammy was the one who became distraught noting the missing tags. Even if the tags had stayed, you kids played hard, and the tiny inner beads did not have a chance of staying intact.

Enjoyable read. Slightly related, but being away from the kiddos has me thinking about how 5 minutes before my kid is asleep I am looking forward to a small break... then when they're finally asleep and I get my break, I am like "I wish the kids were awake rn"

Loved your thoughts on leaving the kids--so true--but so important for mommy and daddy to reconnect as wife and husband.

When I flew to California to visit my college roommate (who got slightlly shafted when I met Dad), as liberating as it was, I was not child-free. She had just given birth her second babies--TWINS, and basically I was there as, well, as a mommy, and also to be a caretaker to her 3-year-old daughter. I went from the fire into the frying pan, but was so happy to be the "experienced" mother who could magically make everything easy and wonderful for her.....Not. I counted the hours to come home to "peace and tranquility" with my three sons all under the age of like 5. I did get one "bask in luxury" experience--a $600 haircut on Rodeo Drive, which was the inception of my "messy bun," so the trip did have some highlights--got those, too, along with the haircut. The only other outing was with friend, 3-year-old, newborn twins in double stroller basinet, and lasted all of 35 minutes at the mall. Although I had no idea what a Beanie Baby was at the time (Beanie Babies were not yet a "thing" in Citrus County), Nordstrom in LA had JUST received a shipment (as they were selling out each installment within 2 hours) and there was a quantity limit of only 3 Beanie Babies at one time. If I had had more than 35 minutes, I would have gone back a few times, but I think they were checking ID's (it was California, remember? I probably could have voted without one, but needed verification to buy Beanie Babies). Anyway, it thrills me that this was such a momentous memory for you, and the pain and suffering I am certain you felt with my absence was alleviated by receipt of a Beanie Baby. Life is good.

However, the story of possible wealth accumulated from possession of hundreds of eventual Beanie Babies in our house was irradicated immediately, as all three of you kids cut all the tags off, so we devalued them from the get-go. We even renamed them, and more than likely they all got haircuts.

I love you. So glad your weekend was wonderful--yet now a distant memory or will be...

I am amazed that people were worried about their plants. But who's to say what's important.

Oh, and did I mention that my friend also had a dog and a cat?
