First, the eloquence of your writing brings me to tears. You are a master.
I read your re-telling with awe and wonder, and felt I was in another world right there with you. You made it so real for me that I could feel the quiver of your arrow. My heart sank to hear the deer was not killed immediately, and the word "paralyzed" always scares me. I am glad you were able to accomplish your mission with swift action.
I am torn with the idea of killing an animal, but I understand the importance and necessity of thoughtful hunting.
I am glad you will be able to enjoy the meat, and there has got to be a certain sense of pride in knowing you are feeding your family what you personally have yielded. You are the hunter and provider. You have developed a whole mind-set of radical living that is a bit foreign to me, but I envy your passion and desire to find ways to live life at a higher level. I will not say "better level" because each of us has to find our own fulfillment. I am glad you have created a life and lifestyle that gives you satisfaction and joy, and the ability to experience and see things I only imagine. It is wonderful to experience life so intimately through your eyes and through your exceptional writing.
If not the radical mindset (though you are quite radical in your own way), I can at least say with confidence that from you I got the eloquence of my writing and sense of wonder and awe -- so thank you!
Congratulations on the deer and the hard-earned lessons. I know the internet doesn't give any glory when you shoot a little buck, but the culinary rewards are awesome. I enjoy the flavor and texture of a young deer over an old bruiser, even if they don't look good hanging on a wall.
Thanks, Alice! If I were doing this (any of this) for internet glory, I would have quit long before I even started. For me, it's all about the connection (and connections) and trying to piece things together as they happen.
Congrats on the deer. Looking forward to seeing some venison recipes
Thanks, man! Don’t worry, there will be plenty!
I'll consider that the highest compliment, and we'll throw in good looks for good measure.
