1. Wild turkeys will deliver up to 3 clutches a year when eggs are lost to predators, farmers, HOA-minded mowers. Mostly they lay in understory v field so there's that.

2. Pretty sure you don't have 3 score and change, you'd be older than me. Double check the math, LOL.

3. Slow-cooked bison ideas: excellent.

Ha! Youโ€™re right โ€” I had in my mind it was 12 years!

I know. Sometimes you wish you hadnโ€™t been so observant. It can cause a lot of needless guilt.

I love you!

โ€œCut into enchiladasโ€ is a phrase that never occurred to me ๐Ÿ˜‚

Once you go lazy, you never go back (on a random weeknight)!

Every season has its death, but it feels more in one's face in the spring, heading into the summer. The nests are full or they aren't. Birds fledge and get grabbed. Same for the small animals - fawns will be out soon. This morning I found a snake, pecked and split, blue jays and crows chiding me from above for pausing to look. Then, a mostly regurgitated mouse, which the nuggets quickly found leaving nothing behind. All feels like predators are in search of prey as so many more living march onward. Do we do ourselves a disservice by searching to observe the nests, the dens, the holes in trees for squirrel littles? Deep sigh.

The quiver is full ... just might need the extra breath ...

Lazy enchiladas - so perfect.

The extra breathโ€ฆ yes โ€” exactly!

โ€œThousands of arrows shot, from all manner of positions, in between steps ups and farmerโ€™s carries, burpees and box jumps โ€” and still, in the heat of the moment, I didnโ€™t execute.โ€

Yup. Practice builds skills, but provides only a veneer of protection against choking in the crucible of the game. I was a genius at getting a big lead in tennis and then losing the match. Took years to develop enough calm (adrenaline brakes) and focus to win (sometimes).

โ€œSometimesโ€ is โ€œsometimesโ€ enough! Thanks, Baird!

Wow. Amazing that the sadness I feel about the Monkey's ears rivals the sadness I feel about the mama losing her baby birds. I can just see you looking out and saying "It wasn't me." I totally dislike crows, although any animal could be a predator in some way, I guess, and you can't fault one for that. You are the predator when you hunt, and babies may get left behind without mamas.

I also picture Kiddo saying "What did you pack me for lunch?". She is so in the moment, and so quickly out of the moment.

When I read your writing, I always anticipate where it is going. It's starts somewhere and ends somewhere else--so rich and alluring.

I love you. Enchiladas look amazing and delicious and my mouth is watering!

And, to top it off, I probably wouldnโ€™t feel any responsibility at all if I hadnโ€™t seen it in the first place!

The lazy enchiladas are right up your alley!

Being observant is both a blessing and a curse

Check out homeopathy for your little monkey. Surgery is the normal outcome in our current medical paradigm but there are other options that do not have a down stream effect.
