This requires not that the writer make all their sentences short, or that they avoid all detail and treat their subjects only in outline, but that every word tell.” I do find that every word of yours ‘tells’. So keep up the good work! 👏
No. 13 changed for me recently when I heard an interview with Claire Keegan in which she evangelizes the paragraph and says how she sees each one as a new litter of piglets nursing on their big sow mum under a warm red light in the corner of the barn. Every litter is different but made up of familiar little archetypes in each piglet - there’s the pretty one, the shy one, the silly one, the runt, the one that tries for two teats, and so on. This has been helpful in my thinking and creation of paragraphs.
