I think you would enjoy the high country challenge of elk hunting. Each year we were gifted elk, the taste different depending on the kill site - sage of lower elevations, earthy, sweet water from high elevations.
Lou this is maybe my favorite yet. I smiled and nodded from start to finish for many different reasons. I was reading something about literary forms and rules the other day, can’t remember what or who, but, basically the person said there are no rules as long as it works.
This one works - overtime for me. Beautiful. Fun. Surprising. Never still. Perfectly still. A treat. Thank you.
I cannot get the goldfinches to come to my goldfinch feeder no matter what I do. I have to walk in the state park to find them, so it seems they want me to earn the right to enjoy their sight. It is well worth it.
Appreciate it! The format works well for these disparate summer thoughts (h/t to @Joshua Ross who I saw using it first — my own versions not nearly as good).
“We will be nearly finished, I think, when we stop understanding the old pull of green things and living things, toward dirt and rain and heat and what they spawn.”
I think I see that finish line just around the next bend in the road. Sigh.

I am quite sure I would!

Jenna, you’re too kind — thank you!

Such cool birds… they’ve made the wildflowers their domain (even if Kiddo has spent the summer trying to catch one!).
Great stuff! The numbered list captures exactly how my brain also works, especially when out checking fence or walking on the farm.

Sigh indeed!
