The quick flip side-to-side-to-side has proven to outperform the 3-mins on side, flip, 3-mins approach in repeated testing. It's a lot more engagement work for the cook. Definitely better outside unless you want the kitchen to smell "too good" for a while.
HAHA! Solo stoves burn really hot thanks to the air flow, what they don't do is produce coals, which is a shortcoming for other types of cooking over fire. For quick turn searing its a good choice and they are ready to use quickly. I am a luddite, but flexible when appropriate!
Ok, speaking about both tracking animals in Africa and the Boy Scouts, you should read the book A Splendid Savage about the life of Frederick Burnham. You’d really dig it!
Love the pace and movement of this one. And so envious of your coyote pup encounter - been waiting for that to happen to me my whole life and still waiting, but that it did happen to you renews my hope - what a dream.
Thank you, Jenna -- that means a lot coming from you!
And yes, that coyote experience was so wonderful and ephemeral... one of those moments in the woods that is over in a second, lasts forever. I hope you can be so lucky!
Love the coyote moment. Felt like I could see it--"looking at us through pine saplings" eyes through the needles.
It was so cool

I was thinking you'd chastise me for keeping the fire too hot!

Ha!!
I have most everything Graves ever wrote. Goodbye to a River is one of my top five all-time books.
I've been so thoroughly enjoying it. Hard Scrabble is next.

On my list… thanks!!
I loved reading "On Drifting." I kept wanting to read what you would write next. So beautiful and touching learning your thought process.
I love you!
Life/death in eternal gyre. Well crafted, Lou! 👏
Thank you, Baird!
I see John’s ellipses habit rubbed off on you.
I am not but a porous vessel!
